22 Years Ago Today

22 years ago I went on my first trip down to Lake Powell with my family and it turned out to be quite an adventure. Fortunatley for me, I have been an avid journal writer all of these years and so it doesn't take much to remember all sorts of details. So here's a brief description of our trip.

July 22, 1986
  • We left Salt Lake with the Fursteneau's (my mom's sister and family) and arrived at the Bullfrog Marina around 5:00 pm.
  • We loaded the boats and found an area on the beach to dock our boats because the sun was going down quick.

July 23, 1986

  • We ventured off onto the lake in search of a camp spot.
  • Gas was needed, so we stopped off at the Dangling Rope Marina.
  • When we tried to leave, the Cabin Cruiser would not go forward, which is apparently a problem when driving a boat.
  • Everyone crammed into the speed boat, except for my parents and sister Kim, who later made their way down the lake being towed by a garbage barge.
  • We found a campsite near the Wahweap Marina
  • A few hours later, when my uncle went to get in the boat, he found that it wouldn't start. So now we had two broken boats.
  • My parents finally made it to the Wahweap marina.
  • We were now stuck on a beach with no working boats and all of our stuff was in the Cabin Cruiser, which was now parked at the Marina.

July 24, 1986

  • We woke up and decided to go and get our things from the boat at the marina. In order to transport everything, we had to use little handcarts, which is kind of ironic since it was Pioneer Day.
  • We were told that the beach we were camped on was private property and that we would have to leave (which is difficult to do when you don't have a working boat!)

Actual Journal Entry:
As soon as we woke up we all went to get the rest of the stuff. Dad and Marc brought carts full of stuff down to the campsite. The rest of us brought some small things down. It was really weird cause on July 24, 1847, the pioneers took their stuff from Idaho to Utah and we had to bring our things from the boat to the tent. We found out that the place we were staying at was someone’s backyard. But we stayed the night anyhow. Me, Amy, Jennifer, and Missy all slept in the tent. We ate a whole loaf of bread and package of cinnom grahm krackers.

This has been one of those fun memories that I like to look back on and laugh. Oh the memories!!

To this day, one of the Lake Powell highlights
is getting ice cream from the marina.

Off we go on our next adventure!
